Daryl Braithwaite galloped into the Hall of Fame at the ARIAs with a rousing performance of his biggest hit, The Horses.
The former Sherbet frontman was joined onstage by Guy Sebastian and indie-pop star Vera Blue during Tuesday night’s awards ceremony.
The trio performed the song, originally recorded by Rickie Lee Jones but which became a massive hit when Braithwaite took it on in the 90s.
The 68-year-old gave a lesson in the held note to his younger collaborators, impressing the audience with his vocal power.
Before his performance, Braithwaite told his career story from starting our in a choir with Olivia Newton-John to his time with Sherbet.
“Sherbet was the catalyst for where I am now,” he said.
“Thank you also to Ian Meldrum – some know him as Molly – and Countdown.”
He was a little lost, he admitted, after leaving Sherbet and had to go on the dole.
But while working on the roads for the council, he realised he had to try and make music again.
“My love for music is as strong now as when I started out,” he told the crowd.
